Being Friends Online

September 30, 2008 on 8:59 pm | In healthy energy drink | No Comments

Unless you haven’t been online for long, you’ve probably heard of a new concept called social networking sites….

So, what does it mean?

Social network sites allow you to connect with old friends and make new ones — sort of like a giant dinner party with old friends that never ends. And, you don’t have to talk to that creepy person who keeps wanting to show his photos, if you don’t want to:-)

These types of sites aren’t really That new.. MySpace.com has been round for a long time, but it’s really been more for the teenie bopper crowd.

Today, there are 2 major players that are both fun and easy to use:

Facebook and Twitter.

If you don’t have an account with either of these, I highly recommend it.

Just go to:

FaceBook.com

and you’ll see “Sign up for Facebook” and “It’s f’ree and anyone can join”..

You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to track down roommates from college, old high school friends, and people you were in Boy or Girl Scouts with…

Once you get an account, search for “Julieanne van Zyl” (that’s me) and also “John van Zyl” and add us as a friend.

My page is also here:

Julieanne van Zyl Facebook

Got that done?

As soon as I see your name pop up, I’ll add you as a friend, and we’ll be able to share ideas, messages, videos and all sorts of stuff.

Next, get on Twitter, which is like blogging one sentence at a time.

Twitter.com

After you register your f’ree account, hit the “follow” link on my page at:

Twitter Julieanne van Zyl

Twitter is great for connecting and sharing on a one to one level, and it’s amazing how easy it is to get questions answered or get almost immediate feedback.

Want someone to give you advice about something you’ve written?

Get on Twitter.

Want to find out the least expensive restaurant in LA?

Get on Twitter.

I’ll see you online, add me as a friend on Facebook, and “follow” me on Twitter, and we’ll be able to get know each other better.!

Nothing to buy – they are free – hope to see you on both sites soon!

Energy Drinks can be Dangerous For Teenagers

September 26, 2008 on 1:31 am | In healthy energy drink, healthy energydrink | No Comments

These days, the desire for a quick fix is causing more problems than it is solving, and it is a good idea to look at drinking a healthy drink rather than one loaded with sugar (which doesn’t give lasting energy). While it might look like we have quick answers to our problems, they are often short-term solutions, which do nothing to fix the situation permanently. Sadly, one of the “quick fixes” that we are becoming increasingly addicted to and which seems to be the favorite of many people is the energy drink. Whether it is Red Bull or Power Horse, energy drinks give us the instant energy boost that we might need at that point in time.

But because of the abundance of these drinks, it is consistently available to teenagers and kids who can buy them for a few bucks each. Unfortunately, research has shown that kids who drink copious amounts of energy drinks are at a risk of exhibiting unruly behaviors and increased violence levels. According to the Journal of American College Health, “Miller and colleagues found that a collection of behaviors known as “toxic jock syndrome” was correlated with high consumption of energy drinks. Toxic jock syndrome includes symptoms such as substance abuse, unprotected sex and violence. With this research proven in different related studies, it is only natural to see that teenagers and frequent energy drink consumption is not a good combination.

So, if you have a teenage son or daughter, try as much as possible to dissuade them from drinking these drinks too frequently and instead teach them to live healthy lives by adopting healthy lifestyles.

Can I Keep Taking Energy Drinks For Increased Stamina?

September 25, 2008 on 1:41 am | In healthy energy drink, healthy energydrink | No Comments

Many times fitness buffs will take energy drinks just to keep them going when training or just to give them the perk they need when they do not feel like training. Energy drinks, which are very common and popular these days as a result of the media exposure they have had and the supposed “miracle” solutions with promises of instant energy and strength, has become the favorite drink of many. Whether it is just for the taste or an instant energy boost, energy drinks are commonly found everywhere. Examples of the popular energy drinks are Monster, RedBull, Rockstar, Power horse, Power Fist, XS, and Go Fast.

While energy drinks are very good for the short-term effects they do provide, it is not good to take them long-term mostly because of their components. One of the very common ingredients found in all energy drinks is caffeine. While some argue that the sugar based energy drinks give a lot more boost, it has been proven that caffeine is the major component responsible for the concentration improvement and hyperactivity. But as with caffeine, an increased usage of these energy drinks will give you diminishing returns and increased dependence on the energy drink. This will cause the exact opposite of the results you are looking for. Most frequent users of energy drinks become addicted to it as a result of the caffeine content available in the drink. So, whatever the reason for taking energy drinks, let them be used as a supplement or support of a healthy lifestyle for balanced results.

That way you will improve or maintain your health and get that energy boost also.

Why are Energy Drinks Useful?

September 20, 2008 on 8:02 pm | In healthy energy drink, healthy energydrink, mangosteen juice | No Comments

In the quest for increased energy levels, many people have opted for the fast solution that may have minimal benefits but long-term side effects –energy drinks.   Energy drinks which are often loaded up with caffeine and sugar among many other ingredients and energy boosting compounds are used to increase the energy levels of individuals who train in the gym or even the ordinary man who just has needs of increasing his stamina and endurance on the job.

For some people, they take energy drinks because of their ability to help them increase their concentration and alertness on the job. Whatever the needs are, energy drinks are good when taken in moderate quantities. But when it becomes the “solution” to tiredness and bodily weaknesses, which are a result of hard work, then there is a problem.

Energy drinks are not meant to keep you awake or to help you keep pushing to the limit. They are meant to give you the increased energy levels that you need so that you can stay a little longer at your task and finish it up. When taken in moderate quantities, there isn’t any likely chance of it becoming dangerous. But when taken in excess quantities, it can cause side effects like irritability, insomnia and tachycardia –increased pulse rate- that are common with excessive coffee intake.

Energy drinks are not meant to provide the one stop solution to frequent tiredness and bodily weakness.   One good solution is to take a healthy energy drink with the nutrients your body requires to keep alert and keep your concentration levels up.   However,  I recommend looking on the label of the can first, to ensure the drink does have the nutrients your body needs.

Why would people opt for the more common energy drink, instead of a healthy energy drink?  In the quest for increased energy levels, many people have opted for the fast solution that may have minimal benefits but long-term side effects -  energy drinks. Drinking a healthy energy drink, getting enough rest and eating well can easily solve these problems.
